While conducting traffic enforcement on Interstate 84 on September 11, Trooper Kaelberer witnessed a vehicle stop and activate its’ hazard lights on the shoulder of the exit 68 off-ramp in Tolland. Trooper Kaelberer stopped to assist the motorist and discovered that the male driver was in emotional distress and talking to a counselor on a suicide prevention hotline. The Trooper reassured this U.S. Army veteran while engaging in conversation and providing a hug when asked. The Trooper then helped the veteran receive medical care. September is Suicide Prevention Month. State Police say if you or someone you know is contemplating suicide, call 988 for immediate help 24/7.
