Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is urging residents to avoid swimming in rivers, lakes and other waters for up to 72 hours after heavy rainfall. Officials say storm runoff and combined sewer overflows can carry bacteria and other pollutants, creating potentially unsafe conditions for recreation.
