The American Red Cross is urging Connecticut residents to donate blood or platelets ahead of the busy Memorial Day travel weekend as hospitals prepare for a possible increase in trauma cases. The Red Cross says accidents tied to boating, swimming, camping and heavy highway travel often raise the demand for emergency blood supplies. Anyone donating by May 31st will receive a free oversized Red Cross beach towel while supplies last. Appointments can be scheduled through the Red Cross website, app or by phone.
