Danbury is launching a Fire Explorers program for residents ages 14 to 17. Participants will meet twice a month to learn about fire safety, emergency response and teamwork from city firefighters. An open house is set for October third, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the fire training facility on Plumtrees Road. Applicants must have good school attendance and at least a 2.0 GPA. Mayor Roberto Alves’ nonprofit donated more than 13 thousand dollars to start the program.
